When it comes to working remotely, it does not take long for the body and mind to feel fatigued. In the past, traveling between home and work gave workers a chance to clear their mind and rest for the next day. With remote work, however, many workers do not get the chance to recharge.

How can you combat fatigue and improve your work performance at home? Here are several tips provided by life coach Dylan Celli that you can use while working remotely.

Avoid Extra Stimulation

It can be helpful to reduce unnecessary activity early on during your workday so you can preserve more energy. For example, in order to decrease extra stimulation, try having audio-only meetings so that there is less visual overload.

In addition, avoid multitasking behaviors such as talking on the phone while working. By limiting the amount of unnecessary activity or stimulation, you can have more energy levels towards the most important tasks.

Rest the Eyes

Constantly staring at the computer screen can tire out the eyes, which is why many optometrists recommend the ‘20–20–20’ rule. This rule serves as a guideline for workers to take a 20-second break every 20 minutes, and then focus the eyes away from the screen.

During this break, workers can instead focus their eyes more on an object that is 20 feet away. The more breaks you give to your eyes, the better you can maintain your energy levels throughout your workday.

Avoid Unnecessary Multitasking

People tend to believe that multitasking will improve their performance by saving time, but it can also wear down your energy levels and mental clarity.

By focusing on different tasks at the same time, your performance may be affected. Cutting down on multitasking can help rest your eyes and mind, which can be critical to reducing fatigue during work.

Keep Yourself Active

By staying active and following a consistent fitness routine, you can reduce stress. With less stress, you can minimize the effects of fatigue while working remotely.

For example, you can do yoga, take a walk, use your home gym, or do other home exercises. These activities can help with clearing your mind, preserving your energy levels, and improving your overall health.

Create Boundaries

It may seem convenient to blend your work and free time together, which can create complications in your daily life. This is why creating boundaries is an essential step to help decrease fatigue.

During your work hours, make sure no one disturbs you. In addition, set up your schedule during your free time so you do not have to make work-related calls. It is important to maintain a healthy balance when you work from home so you can keep your body and mind rested.
